Adventures in Publishing…The Value of Your Name

   Posted by: LiseFuller    in uncategorized

Scroll 1Well, it isn’t just the economy that’s been keeping us writers on edge lately, it’s the publishing industry as well. There’s a lot of press out there right now about Harlequin–the staple of romance–going into ebook with Carina Press as well as Harlequin Horizons (which they are now to drop the Harlequin) doing vanity publishing. It’s the vanity publishing that has most people upset,  yet Harlequin has traditionally been run by some savvy people. Why would they go into that? Of course, we know they think they can make money at it but why else? Their parent company, Torstar, apparently is in the red. One has to wonder if Harlequin, the only sub of theirs that’s in the black, isn’t being pressure by the parent to do this. Esp. because of the strength in Harlequin’s name. They are known for romance. Now, with the vanity pub, they’re accepting everything? Yet, using the name, for many, seems like bait and switch….Thoughts? I’d love to hear yours on this.

Okie dookie all. Some of you know that the last story in my HEART OF JUSTICE SWAT series came out November 23 at Liquid Silver Books www.liquidsilverbooks.com. Hope you’ve had a chance to pick up your copy. I have to admit of all my characters in this series, the hero in this book is probably my favorite. He’s the most rough around the edges, and I had to work hard to smooth him  out. He’s a little too overprotective, and the heroine isn’t taking it well. :) I think he deserved a heroine who was a bit of a spitfire, a bit harder to deal with, with some rough edges of her own. I hope you enjoy their adventure and seeing how they help each other work through issues. This story definitely is hot, and it has some suspense and danger.

See you next week! Happy Thanksgiving to my friends, family, and readers in the USA!
